Where ideas take shape
Precision and quality for sophisticated plastic parts
Thermoforming is a process for forming thermoplastics under the influence of heat and vacuum. We specialize in producing technical parts, high-quality visible parts, reusable workpiece carriers for medium and heavy machine components and much more. The advantages of this process are
Our possibilities
Our modern and efficient thermoforming systems can produce parts of very different sizes: from the size of a thimble to the roof of a truck. Our modern machinery enables us to produce even large orders on time in consistently high series quality and to bridge even bottlenecks optimally. We process sheets up to 10 mm per sheet using the single-sheet process.
Products in the plate thermoforming
With plate thermoforming, there are various ways of designing plastic parts in order to adapt the best properties to the application. Other options include forming several layers, such as double multilayers, in order to combine different properties. For example, a component can be produced with different colors on the inside and outside. We can also apply colored positioning or marking strips to your plastic components.
Plate Thermoforming process
In plate thermoforming, the machine is loaded with the material. The plastic plate, which is heated to 250 °C and almost melts, is formed onto the mold surface using a vacuum. The wall thickness depends on the drawing ratio and can be influenced by a pre-stretcher or upper punch.
- Insert plate(s)
- Deep drawing in the mold with the cooling phase
- Removal of the workpiece
Post-processing during thermoforming
Shortly after the products have been removed and cooled down, their post-processing begins: the deep-drawn part is punched, sawn and further processed according to the production specifications – for example by means of stress-free post-treatment in the oven. Ultimately, this always shows that conscientious preparatory work pays off. Depending on the customer’s requirements, further work is possible during these work steps: from CNC milling to the pre-assembly or complete assembly of the end product to the application of customer-specific lettering.
Fully assembled and ready to use
The assembly of molded parts through to the assembly of entire modules is becoming increasingly important. Grütter has therefore expanded its assembly department in recent years; the number of employees in this area has also been increased. This assembly service is of great benefit to customers: They no longer have to carry out the subsequent work on the molded parts themselves, but can integrate pre-assembled parts directly into their own production process. Numerous tables are available in the assembly department, where the well-trained employees assemble, glue, screw or rivet the customer’s own or purchased parts with the utmost care.
Tools for plate thermoforming
We develop and design the tools for plate thermoforming in-house and manufacture the CNC-milled aluminium moulds ourselves using the latest process-optimized technologies. Meeting quality and deadline requirements plays a major role here. Depending on your ideas and specifications, we select the ideal mold type for your project:
- CNC-milled, directly cooled aluminum moulds
- CNC-milled Metapor aluminum moulds
- 3D printing molds made of plaster
