What are bio-based plastics?

Bioplastics are bio-based, biodegradable or both.

  • Bio-based: Renewable raw materials as starting material

  • Biodegradable: Chemical process in which microorganisms convert materials into natural substances (depending on the conditions)

  • Rotational molding is mainly used for the production of durable goods.

The manufacture of rotationally molded products from biodegradable materials would impair the durability of the products. Plastic made from bio-based material is therefore used.

Why use bio-based products?

  • Saving fossil resources through the use of biomass offers unique potential for reducing the carbon footprint
  • Bio-based products have the same properties as their conventional versions
  • Chemically identical to “normal” PE = drop-in solution
  • Each bit is recyclable like “normal” PE – and can be mixed
  • Every carbon atom in BIOBASED PE was absorbed from the atmosphere during the growth of the sugar cane,
  • The binding of carbon in a stable molecule means a reduction in global warming
